John Newman, MS, LADC, LPCC

Hello! My name is John Newman, and I’m a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor and Licensed Alcohol & Drug Counselor. I’ve been working in mental health for over five years, and have served in both clinical and leadership roles. For those seeking licensure as an LPCC, I am also approved to provide supervision by the Board of Behavioral Health & Therapy.

My approach to therapy is focused on creating a safe, supportive environment where we can work to determine what a vibrant, meaningful life looks like to you. We’ll identify strategies for coping and thriving, as well as looking at strategies that have been less helpful up to this point. Past clients have told me they appreciated my empathy and authenticity, and these are the qualities I’ll strive to bring to our work together.

I specialize in working with anxiety, especially social anxiety, as well as substance use disorders and the issues that commonly co-occur with them. I use Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, an evidence-based psychotherapy that emphasizes openness, flexibility, and a focus on your own freely-chosen values. My hope is that you come away from our time together with a greater sense of freedom, autonomy, and optimism for the future.

It takes courage to seek help, especially when you’ve been stuck for a long time. The first step is often the hardest. When you’re ready, I look forward to working with you.
